The New Jebel Ali School - FAQs

Will the new school be operational by September, 2009?

The school is presently on schedule to open in September, 2009. (updated: 4/22/08)

When will the construction start?

We are currently in the design phase and once that finishes (end of September, 2008) the construction will begin. Check the school website for regular updates.

What is the exact location of the new site?

What will be the new name?

This has been included in the questionnaire and will be made public as soon as it is decided.

Will all of the facilities be finished by September, 2009?

The school will be constructed in three phases. Phase one will be completed by September, 2009 & will include the following facilities:

  • Key Stage Two (Years 3-6) classrooms, library, art and science rooms.
  • Key Stage Three (Years 7-9) classrooms
  • Secondary School Library
  • Science Building
  • Pools (2)
  • Sports Hall
  • Sports fields
  • Art and Design Technology Building
  • Auditorium
  • Music, Drama and Dance facilities
  • Administration building
  • Secondary School Cafeteria
  • Learning Support Facilities

Key stage 4 & 5 will be constructed three & five years respectively, after phase one.

Will Key Stage One (Infants) be moving to the new site?

The infant's school will not be moving to the new site.

Do the ETISALAT Satellite dishes pose any threat?

No, these are receiving dishes and do not send out a signal. Also, it is physically impossible for the satellite dishes to point downwards and therefore they do not pose a health or safety threat to the children.

Traffic and parking

The school will have two entrances (primary and secondary) and both will have drop off and pick up zones. There will also be visitor and staff parking. Parking & traffic flow have been taken into consideration in the planning of the new school.

Will parents be involved in the planning process?

A comprehensive questionnaire will be sent to parents in April to gather their input.

Will siblings have automatic entrance?

Siblings will have automatic entrance into both the primary & secondary school as long as the school can meet their educational needs.

Will children entering in KS1 have automatic access through to the secondary school?

All children in the primary school will have automatic entrance into the secondary school as long as the school can meet their educational needs.

Will the school increase the number of bus routes when it expands into a secondary school?

Bus routes will be evaluated on a yearly basis and will be added to as required. The new metro station will also be included in the school's transport plans.

Will the new school be as well shaded as the current key stage two site.

Shading has been highlighted as a planning priority and will be substantial at the new site.

What will the fees be?

Being a non profit school, the fees are always set so as to cover the projected costs for the year. They will be in line with secondary school fees of other non profit schools.

Will there be a cafeteria in KS1 and KS2?

At this stage there is only a cafeteria planned for the secondary school.

Will there be a green policy?

Yes, the school will surpass the new government legislation (LEEDS) & this is being incorporated into the design.

How many pools will the school have?

There are currently two pools planned. One of which will be purposely built for beginners.
