K9 Friends Press release

K9 Friends has been issued with a notice requesting them to vacate their current premises by the 31st of May 2007. Despite a constant struggle to remain where they are K9 Friends is now out of time and their landlord has refused to renew their lease for another year. K9 friends is currently fighting for an extension on their lease as they will be unable to move all of its current dogs and operation in the short time given.

This means that the current 128 K9 Friends dogs will be out of their shelter in a few weeks time. K9 Friends regrets that once again they have to suspend their present operation and concentrate on re-housing the dogs currently in their care.

K9 Friends has been a Dubai institution since its set-up over 17 years ago. However in the last 6 years alone K9 Friends has taken in neutered and rehomed over two and a half thousand dogs, thus keeping the streets of Dubai free from unwanted stray dogs and controlling the dog population by diligently neutering every animal that came its way.

WSPA (the World Society for the Protection of Animals) holds K9 Friends up as its “flagship of animal welfare in the Middle East” yet without immediate intervention and a place to go this group will not be able to continue. The group needs a new premises to lease or preferably a piece of land on which to build a purpose built animal shelter . Without immediate intervention it is feared that the future of stray and abandoned dogs in the UAE looks very bleak indeed.

Care for Children (First Aid) Course

The Emergency First Response Care for Children course is an innovative CPR, AED and First Aid training course that teaches participants how to provide emergency care for injured or ill children (ages one to eight) and infants less than one year old. Participants learn about the types of medical emergencies that children face, and how they differ from adult conditions. The curriculum also includes the importance of attending to basic emergency situations with children, the emotional aspects of caring for children, secondary care for children, and preventing common injuries and illnesses in children. Emergency First Response Care for Children course trains the lay rescuer to follow the same priorities of care used by medical professionals. The student masters the priorities and the procedures of patient care for infants and children in a non-stressful learning environment, which reduces the performance anxieties that interfere with learning and enhances confidence when rendering aid in a real medical emergency.

My son has started in reception and as I work and only arrive at 4 we are in need of somewhere for him to go in village / Gardens are to be looked after. Hatta is known for its Wadis and dry beds of streams that flow after winter rains from the Hajar Mountains. The rocky terrain makes it an excellent 4x4 experience. An hour or so of rough driving leads to scenes of breathtaking beauty of rock pools, some with water all year round, carved into strange shapes by the rushing seasonal torrents. Greenery clinging to a precarious existence, tiny cultivated plots and stone houses. A cool dip in the natural pools is on the cards followed by a trip to the heritage village and the ruler’s Majlis which gives an insight into the ancient Arab culture.
