End of the School Year

Date: 2008-06-23

Dear Parents and Friends

I write at the end of a school year in which Jebel Ali Primary School has played a prominent role on the Dubai scene.

Staffing

Earlier this month, I mentioned the staffing changes that will be taking place in September 2008. I would like to elaborate further by mentioning in more detail a few staff members, each with over 10 years commitment and dedication to the school.

Mrs Lorna Tripney began her Jebel Ali experience in September 1997.  Mrs Tripney is taking time to focus on other things in Dubai but we will continue to see her around as she has indicated her availability for supply!

Mrs Angela Griffith made her appearance on the teaching scene at Jebel Ali in February 1993.  Mrs Griffith and her husband, Jim, have been stalwarts of the school and supported many initiatives. Mrs Griffith and her husband leave us to begin a new adventure in Abu Dhabi.

Mrs Yvonne Greenhow joined a village school in the desert in April 1989 and has helped mould the very essence of what makes Jebel Ali Primary School the place it is today. Mrs Greenhow and her husband are returning to the sunny climes of Manchester and will keep an eye on things that happen in Jebel Ali from afar.

To those mentioned above and all other leavers, I would like to thank you for your contribution to the education of the children at Jebel Ali Primary School.

Mrs Joan Clark will be taking on the role of Deputy Headteacher from September. Mrs Clark is currently a Headteacher in Renfrewshire, Scotland and is very much looking forward to working at Jebel Ali.

Pupils

I would like to wish every one of our leavers success in their new schools. It amazes me to think of the Jebel Ali network spreading around the globe. I hope that your experience with us will provide fond memories of your primary school years.

Year Book

The 2007 / 2008 Year Book is available from the Reception at Key Stage One and Key Stage Two for the price of Dhs 30.  The current Year 6 leavers will each receive a complimentary copy. If you wish to purchase a copy then please send the correct money into school with your child.

Joke Book

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the school we have compiled a Joke Book with entries from all children and staff.  This book will presented to all children on Wednesday.

Reminders

The Year 2/3 and Year 4/5 discos take place at 5:00pm – 6:00pm and 6:30pm – 7:30pm respectively in the school hall at Key Stage Two on Tuesday evening. These will provide another opportunity to get out the 70’s gear that looked so impressive earlier in the year. Chris Fisher will be the DJ and the PTA will be providing refreshments.

The Year 6 leavers disco is at Ciro’s on Wednesday at 5:00pm.

I would like to wish every one a fantastic summer and look forward to seeing you all at the start of the new term.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Price
