Summer 2009
RUGBY
In the last week of the Spring Term both Year 5 and 6 ‘B’ teams played Rashid Primary School for Boys ‘A’ team. This was Rashid’s first ever competitive rugby match. After an enthusiastic display, our Year 5 team eventually lost by 4 tries to 2 after going up by one try just after the start of the game. Year 6 ‘B’ team side went on to win by 7 tries to 1 against the Rashid’s ‘A’ squad.
GIRLS’ FOOTBALL
The Year 3 & 4 team had a friendly match against Jess Arabian Ranches, the girls showed excellent enthusiasm to beat them by 6 goals to nil.
JEBEL ALI YEAR 5 NETBALL TOURNAMENT
Once again we had an excellent turn out from other schools to play in the Tournament. Jebel Ali’s team just missed out on a semi-final spot when Kings scored a goal in the last passage of play in their first game. Whilst Jebel Ali didn’t make the semi-final stage the team showed that they are becoming increasingly competitive. Well done to the Squad.

YEAR 3 KWIK CRICKET
Year 3 took part in a friendly match against Jumeirah Primary School in May. The team played very well with the game coming down to the last over, Jebel Ali narrowly lost by 8 runs, scoring 52 runs to Jumeirah Primary School’s 60 runs.

YEAR 4 KWIK CRICKET
Year 4 had a home match against Jumeirah Primary School. The match was very close with JPS winning by 10 runs. Jebel Ali scored 17 runs to JPS’s 27 runs.
INTRA SCHOOL COMPETITIONS
This term, in particular, the department has run events where the children play competitive matches against each other from the after school activities that they have taken part in. This term we have had competitions in rugby, football and cricket. This is something that the department is keen to develop in the future with more competitions to involve even more children.

Well done to the Year 2 classes that came up to KS2 for their transition day. l was very impressed with their enthusiasm in their PE lesson and the department looks forward to working with them and further developing their sporting ability in Year 3.
The department would also like to thank the Year 6 children for all their efforts in PE lessons and to all those who had the opportunity to represent their school. They did it with pride and great enthusiasm. We wish all the children the best in their sporting involvement in their next schools.
In September, (Autumn term), children will follow the same lesson format as the present term, with one swimming lesson a week and one games lesson a week.
If you would like to keep up to date with sporting events as they happen and/or wish to view past and present PE newsletters, please go to the school website. Photos and information are also posted on the PE notice boards outside school reception and Sports Hall entrance.
One plea! Please can l ask that you check your son/daughter’s wardrobes for any team sports kits that they still may have. Can these be returned to school as soon as possible. Thank you.
The PE department would like to wish you all a good summer break and hope the children keep themselves fit and healthy ready for another action packed new sporting year ahead!
